Michael Vanden Heuvel
I’m a Computer Science & Engineering PhD student at the University of Washington, advised by Jeff Nivala, and an NSF CSGrad4US Fellow. I’m interested in machine learning for understanding and designing biology.
Research, software, and service.
During my undergraduate studies, I worked with the Informatics Skunkworks and UW School of Medicine on machine learning for medical imaging. Before graduate school, I was a software engineer at Microsoft Security, where I built full-stack systems for Microsoft Sentinel and led features from early design through production operations.
I also care deeply about teaching and community: from computer science education and wet-lab instruction to disability advocacy and student-led events.
